Course Description

Diversity and culture, encompassing aspects such as race, ethnicity, class, gender, and more, remain subjects of ongoing debate within media and public discourse. But what do these terms truly signify, why do they provoke such passionate discussion, and why are they significant? This course is designed to lead students on an exploration of issues surrounding relationships between racial, ethnic, and gender categories with broader structures and institutions. Focus is placed on stereotypes, prejudices, discrimination, social movements, culture, and social justice. Social, social-psychological, historical, and economic theories are employed.
